Student Engagement

In 2019, Vanishing Point began working in partnership with the Scottish Drama Training Network to offer placement opportunities and learning events for production students attending education institutions within the SDTN network. The placements and learning events usually coincide with our main production and cover a range of subjects including costume design, lighting design, stage design and production management.

Current Opportunities

Industry-Based Learning: Producer (2021)

This was an opportunity for a student to gain an insight into the process of producing a Vanishing Point show through a bespoke learning programme.  The learning programme involved a series of one-to-one meetings with Vanishing Point’s Administrative Producer; meetings with production staff and members of the creative team and some practical experience. This opportunity provided an emerging producer with an opportunity to gain insight into the operations of an international theatre company and to begin building their own network of professional contacts.

Previous Opportunities & Events

The Metamorphosis (2020)

We offered four short-term student placements in Lighting Design, Stage Design, Stage Management and Production Management. Each student on placement had the opportunity to observe rehearsals, production meetings and shadow their professional counterpart. Supported by the Hugh Fraser Foundation.

Additionally, we supported a Costume Assistant Placement (Becky Hollis) for the duration of the rehearsal and production period.

The Dark Carnival (2019)

We offered placements to three people aged 18-25 interested in developing a career in theatre - they had the opportunity to observe rehearsals, take part in Q&A's with members of the production team and attend the premiere of The Dark Carnival.  Supported by the Hugh Fraser Foundation.

We supported a Costume Assistant Placement (Rebekah Chapman) in conjunction with the FST Future Proofing Bursary.

We delivered three backstage learning events whereby 30 students had the opportunity to see a performance of The Dark Carnival, followed by a Q&A with members of the creative team and a tour of the set.
